James Cameron confirms the title for Avatar 3, which details a film with ‘Fire and Ash’, Pandora’s uncharted corners: ‘Not what you expect, but definitely what you want’

James Cameron revealed an update about the title for his third Avatar series. At the D23 convention, he announced that the third Avatar would be titled Avatar: Fire and Ash. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the announcement earned “big applause.”.

One of the most spectacular films was Avatar, released in 2009. Upon its release in December 2022, it was followed by its sequel called Avatar: The Way of Water. Its third installment of this franchise is due to release across the world in December 2025.

In an interview recently on his new Avatar movie, James Cameron said, “We’ll have new cultures and settings and creatures, and new biomes,” saying that viewers will get to see far more of Pandora—the tropical planet where these flicks are set.

“The new movie’s not what anyone expects, I don’t think, but it’s sort of what everyone wants,” he added. Avatar: Fire and Ash – which sees Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana reprise their lead roles – has already been shot, as have the third and fourth Avatar films, which come out in December 2029 and December 2031 respectively.

While the first Avatar got the audience familiar with the forest-bound Na’vi, the sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, did the honors of getting acquainted with the Metkayina–the clan living in the coastal regions of Pandora.

He revealed that it’s going to be a “darker side” of the Na’vi, with fire-wielding residents of the planet called the “Ash People.”.

“The fire will represent the ‘Ash People’. I want to show a different slant to the Na’vi, because up till now, I’ve pretty much shown their good aspects. In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite,” he had said.
